Reaching you will unmake us,
it is the end and start of our impossible divide,
placing our every mistake in a clouded hourglass
and hiding flaws in time’s delicate folds.
All of these moments have their own weight
like stones of different shapes and sizes,
decorated in glyphs and runes of the languages we lost,
each can build a road and towering castles for us one day.
I’ve broken time for this,
shards of space to be assembled
until I can make us right,
until I inhabit and examine
each line of the lives
we made and when I’m here
Everything flutters and ripples without wind,
a world of fragile surfaces
and frail shimmering oceans,
you had to follow me here,
take my hand into yours
and trust me to guide you
through their collapse to
When I kissed the small curve of your neck’s side,
holding you even when there’s a crushing
distance painted across your eyes of the places
you could never seem to let me reach,
when I whispered words to you that only
soul mates can hear the sounds of.
And only you could feel the symbols in the rings worn,
the unceasing devotion they promise,
the things that hide in time’s delicate folds
but always circle and breathe anew.
All of these moments between us are their own contained
universes braiding together rivers of seconds and hours,
wherever I move the currents, I can only go so far,
I can’t go beyond the maps you’ve carefully drawn
and if I was immune to your loving touch,
I could make us perfect.
But, guided by the notion that there is a painless,
perfect version of us in some other time stream,
I will inevitably carve flaws somewhere as you reach out.
Pleading to look closer and listen to your breath,
soft like a sigh exhaled against my skin,
like infinite ashes hovering in the wind.
Forever hung on those moments
that only soul mates feel the ripples of,
I brought worlds to an impossible standstill for this,
contracted space to a pinpoint to split skies and open the earth,
tampered with all of time’s seemingly immovable delicate folds,
knowing that reaching you will be the start and the end.
