Hand in hand,
We traverse this unknown road,
Blindly mapping the terrain by distant starlight.
The darkness shrouds our faces from each other,
But the warmth of our fingers
Kisses our souls with gentle comfort.
Blue-black shadows stretch beyond us,
Hiding the path from our eyes;
Yet, hand in hand,
We journey on,
Each stumble and faltering,
Each sliding step,
Every skip and
Every hop
Are joys to us as we walk
Together in companionable silence.
Words are not needed
In this unknown night,
Nor lantern, nor torch, nor candle.
For we feel the way with tentative steps
And gentle expectations of nothing more
Than each other.
We greet the winding corners with partnered resolve,
And there is no need to speak aloud,
For in the midst of this shadowy realm,
The single cry of one another’s heart
Is enough for us to hold on tightly
And kiss this unknown journey into daylight.
And so,
I care not where this darkened road will take us,
Only that I may traverse it with you.
