The Monarch

Font Size

Today, I watched as a Monarch fluttered by,
Delicate as she moved here and there.

So much of a Monarch’s life is hidden
And yet their form is rich beyond compare.
Such grace within a captive soul,
Trapped in a cage of bittersweet memories,
Wanting to indulge, but not knowing how.
Longing  to break free, but not knowing how.
Her colour, vibrant, shining like the sun
How can I hope to see such a vision again,
Must I use a net to being her close?

For this is no better than the cage in which she lives
Her freedom, the prize for her
She dances lightly taking her nectar
Getting ready for her flight
Her migration flight to freedom
And all things new
