Tastes Like Winter

Font Size

This brings me back,
takes me on a journey in the deep recesses of my mind
to a time I remember well.

And although it tastes the same
(like winter)
like hot chocolate on a crisp, dark night,
feels like the sharp wind whipping at my skin,
I wear the scars it leaves differently now.

Cold bitter frost gathers on my tongue
but I’m quick to melt them in my pyre.

I had almost forgotten how you felt like ice to me
(and yet somehow you always made me burn).

This brings me back
to a time when I was younger
(I was naïve)
and my tears fell down like rain
(in a torrent).

And although it tastes the same.
(like winter)
I’m quick to kill the pain.
