Running Late

Font Size

As the man in my life, stands in the shadows

Looking around the smoked filled room

After a long day, looking forward to a night out

Running late, I tried to call

Just getting your voicemail

Getting home I called again

As I ran up the stairs

Opening the door to our bedroom

Laid on the bed was the outfit you picked

Grabbing the dress, stockings, and heels

Rushing to get them on

Never noticing the chain placed on my pillow

I hailed a cab

Told him the address

Yelling at him to step on it

Walking into the club

I spot you right away

The look on your face says it all

(Babygirl you are in trouble)

Casting my eyes to the floor

Making my way to you

Never making eye contact

I start to say

Feeling your hand cover my mouth

I know better not to say

You lean close, whispering in my ear

You’re late and not completely dressed

I bite my lip and laugh it away

Looking deep into your eyes

I see the darts start to fly my way

Stabbing me with anger

Looking towards the floor

Four words I say

Baby, I love you
