River of Tears

Font Size

Love,
Nothing but a river of tears,
Crystals of salt stealing the high ground,
On riverbank cheeks and eyes of crimson red.

What we had, destroyed,
What we wanted most, gone,
Fear striking, like a twisting knife,
In flesh that’s weak and feeble.

Despair, stares with an ugly face,
Swirling around inside your head,
Grinning with its eyes wide open,
Ready to strike and knock you dead.

But you know you’re strong,
Your resolve will stem this river of tears,
And the tide of time will heal those wounds,
And the piercing knives, upon the floor will end.

Then you smile, and then you laugh,
Bubbles of excitement will rise and fall,
Butterflies flirt with your sense of reluctance,
Before that kiss, flips you inside-out.

He’s part of you, made the same,
The one that’s saved your soul,
And off you go, skipping briskly,
Over pebbles that once were stones.

The hand that slips inside of yours,
The words that fuel your heart,
Nothing but a river of,
Love.
