Perfect Imperfection

"Sometimes true beauty lies in our imperfections"

Font Size

When I open a glossy magazine
I am faced with beautiful perfection
How can I simply ever compare
Will I be able to keep his attention

Perfection is simply too boring
I tell myself that each night
Imperfection is what is beautiful
I wish with society I could win this fight

When he finally looks into my eyes
Will he be able to see my beauty within
I try to look inward for my own beauty
Pride is one of the seven deadly sins

Why can modern society not agree
That health and human kindness
Are the truest forms of beauty
Overlooked by society’s blindness

I look into the all seeing mirror
Counting each imperfect flaw
When he looks at me in person
I wish I could see what he saw

Seeing myself through other’s eyes
I would hope my aura shone
I can’t believe how much brighter
With his love my glow has grown

Scars and imperfections become
The roadmap of our existence
The magazine has no imperfection
Due to the air brush’s assistance

What would he think if perfect he saw?
Would the beauty of my soul he lose?
Over years I have felt so inferior
Not the beauty that society views

I have to trust the voice in my heart
It speaks during the quietest seconds
It tells me that the minute we kiss
My inner beauty his heart beckons

For if you are striving for physical perfection
Your journey will be one of disappointment
The only way that perfection can be sought
Is being beautiful inside and out at the same moment
