Let’s Throw Words Away

Font Size

Let’s throw words away for a while,
cast them into pure oblivion,
because we’ve arrived at a place where language
isn’t a necessity to keep us so closely tied.

I’ve already peeled back the petals,
the accents, subtle nuances and double meanings.

I’ve already likened your eyes to beautiful sonnets,
the celestial glows emitted by the stars,
your voice to sad swells and maddening storms,
the wind’s most intense private whispers,
to every song sung to me in the dark.

We’ll throw words away soon,
and this arched body will be
the softest earth beneath me
as I’m taken by the impulse
to be everything you know.

When that moment sweeps over us,
words will still have power,
but one we can wield later on.

When we’re stripped and fused in harmony,
beings kindled in perfect concert,
I cannot place you in metre,
examine you through allusions and similes
or make a syntax out of your mysterious heart.

I can’t even begin to pen lines
to encapsulate the details.

The warm silk of skin on skin,
the slight retreat to summon
your hot breath against my ear
in a longing wordless chant
that only the body will understand,
the hands pulling at my waist,
a gentle guide preceding the primal charge.

All of those moments splayed out with ink
do no justice to these vast wants.

Let us throw words away for a while,
twine together in this needful flash
that casts the outer world into oblivion.

My only universe is the length of your body,
our mouths mingling with the heat
that only the truly familiar can elicit.

I know that I’m far too jealous,
when those sensations radiate throughout,
they feel like possessions to you and I,
not notes inked page after page into a tome,
frantic urges organized by the alphabet.

Something fragile gets lost in translation,
whether it’s the immediacy or I lack the eloquence
to frame such intimate couplings,
I do not really know.

But we’ve arrived at a place
where words can only map so much,
the rest of you is exotic,
a continent to feverishly explore

As I’m taken by the impulse
to be everything you know,
because our ties do not get any closer,
we can save language for later on.
