My eyes are clouded over
Remembering you in sepia and nostalgia
The way only I could see you
Everything I ever thought you were
Every detail I embraced
All the small things
From your favourite color
To the songs you shared
The pictures of you begin to fade
Taken by time and the edges become worn
But in my head I see you in CinemaScope lens
My hand reaching out for yours
Only to be pushed back and left to wonder why…
You never really let me completely in
Leaving my imagination to fill in the gaps
The hopes, the dreams
They became dashed and muddied in the rain
Like a sad festival campsite when it is all over
But still I remember you
The way you first appeared
The first conversation, though I’ll try to forget the last.
The end of a strange intoxicated chapter
That somehow made its way into a novel
And I try to forget
What felt real in the moment
I try to remember every cut and every bruise
But in the end
My eyes are always clouded over
You never let the sun shine
