If You Really See Eurydice

Font Size

Stolen kisses beneath the Oak
A flash of a breast in the moonlight
Tentative touches under the cover of darkness
Muted pleasures as we veil ourselves in the forest
Aphrodite-like perfection masquerading as Artemis

Summer longing turns to Autumn lust
Winter’s icy kiss becomes the whispered vows of Spring
Libation to Apollo as we unite in a field in full bloom
Playing joyful songs as my bride dances in the meadow
And we lay beneath the stars making love

Eternal darkness leaks into my soul
Mournful music courses through my veins
Angry Aristaeus, what has he done?
But taken you away
Where the Underworld now lays claim

Whispered words I hear behind me
Teardrops on my face
Anguish and suffering, I have known
As your shadowed footsteps trace over mine
And your warmth is felt on my back

Ever elusive Eurydice, can I really trust?
I can see the light now but my mind is still clouded
My vision of you fades and my memory disappears
I need you sweet Eurydice
Please show me you are near

I made a mistake my dear Eurydice
My word I did not keep
I watched you go in front of me
As you returned to the depths
And I stayed here with Grief

Perpetual sorrow plagues me
Playing heavy on my soul
I did not trust, Eurydice
Your sacred beauty I did not cherish
For that I am a fool

If you really see Eurydice, can you tell her of my love?
