Goodbye

We never did drive across the states nor did we finish the remodel of our home. Something more important took over our dreams and plans. Looking over at you I am reminded of our first kiss that led to your first promise. As I sign my name below yours I feel my eyes watering again. How did we get here? What went wrong? As I turn to walk away from this cold empty room, her perfume clouds around me. Choking away the last fleeting moments of hope. Never looking back, I take my first steps to a future without you.
