As I Write

Font Size

Sat here they roll off my cheeks as I write

As they break free my heart held in a vice

Now dulling each day that once was so bright

In summer descending it turns to ice

Like a comet crashing into the earth

Time standing still as the orb hits the ground

Once burning so hot now empty of mirth

Teardrops explode without making a sound

Your smile once lit my life now you are gone

Did pledges of love confuse and scare you

Only a hole is left where you once shone

I wish I could help and know what to do

Keeping you safe not pushing us apart

Friends from the start with my soul and my heart

Eyes on the east as I write in this chair

Reminding me now of my simple goal

The sun breaks the night blinding me with glare

Spots on my eyes like the marks on my soul

Spying you there such a beautiful sight

Gold hair ablaze cobalt eyes shine and spark

Seeing you back my heart fills with delight

One glimpse of you destroys all of the dark

You hesitate now, suddenly afraid

There’s nothing to fear my bundle is fine

I stayed on track with the promise I made

Come to me now let our bodies entwine

Emotions explode, souls emptied of dread

Back with my heart no more tears to be shed
