Finally eyelids felt weighted
As she slept, her lover came to bed
For so long she had waited
She dreamt of him each night
For that was their time together
At nighttime she was fearless
Her worries light as a feather
She pulled her covers back
And she let him crawl in
The warmth of his body
Like heaven against her skin
She had memorized his touch
The sweet feel of his kiss
Together forever she swore
Her dreams of him, pure bliss
Why only in her dreams?
She wanted him for real
She wanted to be his lover
His touch she wanted to feel
Why couldn’t she have him?
What was her worry?
For if he knew how she felt
He might leave her in a hurry
So she admired him from afar
She planned a whole fantasy life
In her mind he was not a dream
In fact she was his wife
In her fantasy dreams they were wed
And they had two kids, a dog and a cat
A white picket fence surrounding them
Every girl dreamed of a life like that
He kissed his wife with passion
Their sex life was perfection
She knew his every sexual desire
And they shared a soulful connection
In her dreams she was his fantasy
Everything he had ever wanted
But when the alarm went off in the morning
Of her beautiful dreams she was haunted
She got herself dressed for work
Knowing he would be there
She wanted to look beautiful
She just wanted him to stare
At work they struck up casual conversation
He had no idea how he made her feel
As she chatted she remembered her dream
With all her heart she wanted it to be real
That is when it happened so fast
She felt like she was in a fog
He leaned in and kissed her lips
Whispering, “No cat, I want two dogs”
