Finding Happiness

"In a world of sadness we must all find our happiness."

When we turn on the television
It seems bad news and tragedy rule,
Natural disasters are everywhere
There are even shootings in school.

The world is full of so much sadness
It is full of disappointment and pain,
Somehow even if we try to shine
It seems our efforts are always in vain.

As children we want to grow up
And live a life like a fairy tale,
We think the happy ending is real
We search for happiness to no avail.

It sometimes seems that our society
Is silently waiting for our defeat,
Just because life knocks you down
It does not have to mean you got beat.

What does happiness mean to you?
That is the important thing to know.
It has different meanings for everyone,
Simply defining it will help you grow.

Some people can’t define happy
They turn to temporary solutions,
But alcohol and drugs wear off
For happy they’re no substitutions.

Be brave enough to look inside yourself
There you will find your heart’s desire,
In this sad world my heart seeks love
And passion that burns like a fire.

Love alone won’t cure famine or crime
It won’t stop natural disasters or hate,
But it will give me the strength and courage
Needed to make a difference, to participate.

We can wallow in the sadness of this life
Or we can choose to find our happy place,
Now that I have decided to fight for happy
It feels like it is such a natural space.

We can change our attitude of the world
By never forgetting how to smile.
Remember that girl that wanted fairy tales?
Her dream is now here, it just took a while.
