By sunrise I’ll be found as dead.
I’m waiting as the tide rolls in,
Regretting all that might have been.
Not caring if I see the light
From all the stars or moon tonight.
My story is an ancient one
Of love that’s gone, a life undone.
With shivers I am supine here,
The coldness tells me death is near
The waters surge about me now,
I feel the chill, I touch my brow.
Recalling days that came to pass,
And simple nights upon the grass
While holding close her beating breast
Upon my trembling breathless chest.
A bond was formed while I admired
The precious pleasure we’d acquired
As both our oaths conjoined our Fates
Foretold of old, two true soul mates.
Within my bones the life seeps out
And I can feel a touch of doubt
That makes me think about my choice.
My pain was given too much voice.
Why must I pay a horrid price
Because my heart gave bad advice.
When I found out she broke the vow
It struck me down, I’m broken now.
But all aglow upon the sea
A vessel floats and passes me.
With sails aloft and lights abeam.
I see her as a gentle dream.
With thoughts of her, the ship I mean,
I cough up spume, my lungs are clean.
My limbs are limp, but I shall live
With all my love still left to give.
A faithless lover I’ll forget
And honesty, I’ll find it yet.
A gift is life, know peace, grow old,
And treasure love when it is gold.
