A Walk

"A Walk on the Beach"

“Take a walk with me,” I say
Holding out my hand
Your fingers touch and mesh with mine
We head out on the sand

Where the water meets the shore
Its grains so cooly packed
Leaving pointed footprints
Trailing from our backs

You look at me expectantly
As if I need to talk
I see the worry in your face
Believing something’s wrong

Now I start to wonder
How to calm your fears
Erase the Ugly Spectre
Uninvited here
Following in our footsteps
This sunny beachside day
Yet thinking if I mention it
The pall will hold and stay

So as we’re strolling
Hand in hand
Two lovers on the shore
Our minds are twisting tortuously
To right what isn’t wrong

It’s such a shame we have to be
Uncomfortable with our thoughts
When all that I had on my mind
Was us taking a walk.
