The Vampire

Font Size

The vampire tried to bite me, in a dream I had once
Instead, he bit my finger
I woke up with my heart pounding
My finger hurt

The vampire was someone I adored
He glided through my days like a slim, dark silhouette
He was always quiet – quiet, I thought
Because he was elegant and reserved
But quiet he was, because he had no soul

I tried to kiss the vampire one night
We were standing outside in damp and cold air
Mist swirling

I kissed him on the cheek
Then, I kissed him on the lips
I closed my eyes – I kissed him again, and he touched my face
Like he was holding me back
Like he was caressing me
When I opened my eyes, my throat hurt

The vampire liked dark movie theatres
He liked to walk alone, at night

In my dream, I thought I loved the vampire
But when he leaned to kiss me
His teeth glistened in the moonlight
And I was afraid.
