Stronger

"I think we'll last"

Fortune smiles on me.
I’m blessed.

Alone with my thoughts,
I peer at the image displayed
On my laptop; your smiling face
Calling to me from the glowing screen.

I study your features
For the thousandth time:
Kind eyes that shine with inner radiance,
Skin, creased from a lifetime of laughter.
Lips that have whispered, “I love you,”
Then sealed the moment with a tender kiss.

I love you too.
Every bit of you.
Heart and Soul.

Caressing your image, I smile.
Can’t help it. I don’t understand
How a chalk and cheese couple,
With no common ground
In which to grow roots,
Could wind up so close.

Love blossomed for us, flourished, thrived,
And here we are – the perfect pair.
We’re a lock and key, belonging together,
Neither complete without the other,
Hopelessly lost when apart.

I feel that tug now. That longing.
Reluctantly, I close the laptop,
Blowing a kiss as your image
Transfers from the screen to my mind.
Safely stored, it will keep me company
‘Til the next time we meet
And the time after that.

I think we’ll last.
I think we’ll grow stronger.
Why else would I feel perfect peace
When I’m wrapped in your arms?
