If your body is a vessel
from which your spirit
will live on,
then I will love that vessel
until its spirit’s gone.
I will worship it and treat it
with the deepest of respect
never taking it for granted
taking care it’s never wrecked.
As its captain I won’t ground it
on a wild and rocky shore
or steer through stormy seas
where it may fall apart and more.
I won’t maroon it on an Island
and leave it lost alone
for that would be a sin
for which I can’t atone.
Your body is a vessel
of the sleekest, finest kind,
with a gentle heart and soul
and a sharp and lovely mind.
It’s an extraordinary vessel
with a spirit that can’t die
that I never would abandon
and why would I ever try?
