When Do You Know?

"Finding the right one"

When do you know? Within cascading flirtatious moments

And accumulated hours of casual canoodling,

All that tongue tangling, ear nibbling, ubiquitous sly stroking,

Comes the time of steamier intimacies,

Fingers that caress to high ecstasy.

And words, ardent expressions, warmly whispered

In the heat of an embrace

When do you know?

When can you be sure? Lost in the magic of long sweet kisses

That go on and on for countless hours that are never enough.

Starry skies may blind you to unspoken truths

Moonlight can be so dangerous in luring

Eager lips to make that fateful three word promise

That comes, you’re sure, from an open heart  expressing

Your certainty, your longing.

Where might that certainty lead? ‘It takes two,’ they say

A cynicism born in tales of ‘promises broken’, of ‘mutual separation.’

Doubts so quickly overridden by deeper desires, heated hungers,

Fuelled by heart-heaving images in the eye, jewelled in the mind,

Assuring you, that those risks of hurt, of future pain,

Have no place in the orgasmic, all enveloping guarantee that

THIS IS THE ONE
