Losing You

"When love dies."

Font Size

I’ve never been talented in expressing my love
Not with words written on paper or spoken by tongue.
I tried with deeds to show my desire. Were my calls to say I love you enough?
My heart was like a bird in a cage, beating frantically, wanting to scream.
Yet we lost it in translation.

Sometimes you didn’t notice the flowers and wine,
Others, I had the pleasure of your lips on mine.

I sensed there was something wrong; my words failed to mend,
It was something you chose not to hear.

I grew desperate for your touch

The sands of Cancun were not enough; you stayed apart.
Hawaii, I tried, earning a smile that faded with the sun.

I fought the coming winter with every bit of my soul,
But you were too far away. I felt despair, knowing I’d lost.

My heart grew frantic, my soul was waning.

You were not there even when you were.
Calls in the middle of the night, and I knew.

Then I came home — You were gone, not even the scent of you.
The empty house — No longer a home. Just the lonely emptiness of my heart.
