I Dream Of You Dreaming Of Me

In the swelter of a torrid summer night,

I dream of you dreaming of me.

When your smell that still lingers in the pillow

Grabs my stray unconscious by the throat

And shoves my head down into the waters of memory,

Drowning on the desires we used to share.

Your melancholy eyes are shut tight

And the bedspread has long been kicked to the floor.

The sweet breath that passes through your lips

is drawn in with yearning and escapes with a soft moan.

The gossamer nightgown clings to your sweat laden skin

And a pillow is clenched high and tight between your thighs.

I dream of you dreaming of me,

Of us and the nights we used to share and the ones we never will.

Memories of my hands caress your trembling body

Cause fraudulent, unsatisfying mimicry as you grope your breast.

Hips rock and you drive yourself into the pillow that grows damp,

With the leather and clove nectar dripping from your coral flower.

You toss and turn, twitching in the witching hour,

Being overtaken by the fire that I left burning on the tips of your nerves.

You shiver as my passioned whisper spreads meaning without word,

And spills over the curves of your body, like a warm sticky honey.

The longing beats against your chest demanding what we once were.

And we tango through the limbo between timeless slumber and your solitary bed.

You wake to find your amorous flesh bound in place,

By the unbreakable ropes that we wove with naïve vows and reckless abandon.

So you spread your knees wide and open yourself to what remains of us,

And you resurrect my name and it breathe it to the night.

Letting your graceful fingers strum your body

Playing your part in our abandoned duet.

And I awaken from my own slumber as that lonesome thought

Chases away all comfort and torments my body.

I join you, or at least the fantasy of you

Two lovers torn apart by broken promises and foolish pride.

Meeting once more to enjoy the delusion of pleasure without end

And mornings with no beginnings.

Then I fall back to sleep,

And again I dream of you dreaming of me.

Dreaming of me dreaming of you.

Dreaming of you dreaming of me.
