In the stillness,
In the darkness after the midnight hour has struck,
When insomnia bites,
My mind wanders, of what has been,
And then I think of you.
My bed half empty,
Warm yet cold,
Longing for it to be filled by you
Bringing warmth like the summer sun
I’m hogging the centre of the bed
Cuddling the pillow
I long to feel you in my arms
Feeling you breathe in a way that touches my soul
Dreaming of our evening together
The dancing, romancing
Bath time and bedtime
Enraptured perfection
And when you whisper my name
And it rolls off your tongue
I come to where you are calling me
And as I close my tired eyes, I meet you there
In your presence, I feel complete
Scarred but no longer scared
My heart melting from protective coldness.
As I wonder and hope what may yet be
In these moments
As I feel your tender touch
Imploring me to trust
I reach out seeking the atonement found only in you
