Fighting Tears

Eyes wide glistening with tears
Fingers twisting the chain around my neck
Lungs squeezed tight fighting for air
Mind trying to stop the memories that play

All fails as the tears being to fall
Black make-up stained cheeks left in their wake
Shoulders shaking with each sob
Strangled sounds of despair escape

Trying desperately to stop the tears
Focused on feeling nothing at all
Willing the walls back into place
Reaching a place of comforting static

Finally able to breathe deep
Body now quieted and relaxed
Eyes drift closed leaving darkness
Pain and sadness have passed
